Sadly, we lost our gorgeous Tibetan Terrier Daisy last May. She was 14 and a half and had a really good (spoiled) life – we were all of course devastated. Losing any pet is truly heart breaking but a dog seems to take an even bigger piece of your heart away when they leave you.
My sister and I have been pestering our parents to get another dog for a while – ok, more ME than my sister, but for months and months, both parents said no, ‘no more dogs’ or ‘it’s still too soon after Daisy’.

 RIP DAISY DOGGIE
However, about a month ago, my mum suddenly announced that she’d put a deposit down on a rescue dog from Romania! A good friend of mine, Hannah, fosters dogs and supports the Silver Fox Dog Rescue and little to my knowledge had been updating my mum on all the dogs being brought into the UK that needed homes.
I must say,  I think the Tibetan style tail and long fur of this particular dog definitely caught my mum’s eye the moment she saw her. Before I knew it, she was announcing that she’d put down a deposit for this Romanian doggie! SO, although we have had her for a few weeks now, I wanted to take the time to properly introduce our gorgeous new doggie, Dora!

 DORA
Once she’d arrived in the UK, which in itself was a pretty horrific journey – 2 days travelling by road and suffering with travel sickness/anxiety – Hannah took Dora to be beautified at the doggie parlour (the state she was in as you can imagine was dire) and after she’d given her a couple of days of basic training and time to settle, she introduced us to her.
The moment we met her, I think we all just KNEW. She was calm, kind and most importantly didn’t attack the cat! HA! She’s been a member of our family for over a month now, and over the bank holiday weekend I took her off the lead for the first time! She did so well – best behaved dog ever, and came back every time I called.

ENJOYING HER FIRST TIME OFF THE LEAD YESTERDAY
More than anything, she is just a sweet girl and to think that she was most likely starving for all of her life, beaten and kicked, breaks my heart. But then I look at her and just praise her for her positivity and kind spirit. Despite the first two years of her life being traumatic and just horrid, she still has the kindest and most happy attitude.

CUTIE DORA
She doesn’t resent people because she’s been kicked in the past. She doesn’t want a cuddle because she may have never had one before, she wants one because she’s put it all behind her. She is a fast learner and has left her past in the past, moved forward and appreciates her new life to the full. (Think we all need to take a page from her book!).
We love her SO MUCH and are so thankful for the opportunity with Silver Fox Rescue to give her a better life.
The work this charity does is incredible, so if you can support them in any way, whether that’s giving a good home to a poor dog longing for a better life, or donating to help rescue more dogs from these awful shelters, than please do.
You can visit their facebook page here where you can see updates on all the dogs urgently needing homes and care -there are some cuties on there and also some heart wrenching stories so be prepared with a tissue.

ENJOYING SOFT & SQUIDGEY BASKET LIFE – SOMETHING SHE NEVER HAD UNTIL A MONTH AGO
Of course it is always lovely getting a puppy (minus the toilet training and chewing!) and I am one to talk as I own pedigree cats but rescuing Dora has made me realise how important it is to not forget all those other dogs that desperately need a home. A puppy will always find a home as they are cute and always in demand. But what about that friendly dog, looking to start over, needing to be rescued from the dog catchers who will all but love you forever and do everything to please you? Dora is ten times better behaved than Daisy ever was (although i do miss her stealing sandwiches from the coffee table!), because she is just happy to be in our home and wants to please you. I believe it’s her way of thanking us 🙂
I am so proud of all the work Hannah does for this charity, and if you are looking for a furry friend, please rescue a dog! I promise you, Hannah will find you the perfect match, as she did for us and many others we know.
Here are some images of Dora enjoying her new life with pals – get ready for CUTENESS!
